After initial delays due to certification issues, Larian Studios has confirmed that the highly anticipated role-playing game Baldur’s Gate 3 is still on track for a December release on Xbox consoles. The specific release date will be unveiled during The Game Awards, which take place on December 7, 2023.
Initially, Larian Studios faced challenges in bringing the game’s split-screen co-op feature to the less-powerful Xbox Series S console. Microsoft typically requires feature parity across both Xbox Series X and S, which posed a hurdle. However, after discussions between Larian founder Swen Vincke and Xbox head Phil Spencer, a compromise was reached. Baldur’s Gate 3 will arrive on Xbox Series X/S, but the split-screen co-op feature will be exclusive to the more powerful Xbox Series X.
Larian Studios confirmed the December release window via their X/Twitter account on November 15. They also announced that the exact release date will be revealed during The Game Awards, where Baldur’s Gate 3 is nominated for Game of the Year alongside other accolades.
