Get ready for a fresh slice of Darkest Dungeon madness, folks! Red Hook just unveiled Kingdoms, a free update coming later this year that’s like a wild remix of the first two games.
Remember the strategic base-building and hero management from the original Darkest Dungeon? Kingdoms brings that back in a big way. You’ll defend a network of inns from monstrous threats, shuffling heroes between them in a stagecoach – kind of like a macabre Uber for the damned.
Speaking of damned, the enemy line-up is looking vicious. We’ve got creepy witches, brutal beastmen, and the return of those freaking Crimson Courtiers (seriously, who designed those guys?). You can choose to face them one by one or in a glorious, masocore free-for-all.
But wait, there’s more! Progression gets a makeover too. Remember grinding at the Shrines of Reflection? Gone! Now you just buy skills straight from trainers at the inns. Much simpler, much less screaming at the Ancestor for bad RNG.
This all sounds pretty darn awesome, right? Here’s the best part: Kingdoms is completely FREE! Red Hook wants everyone to experience this unique blend of Darkest Dungeon goodness, whether you’re a seasoned veteran or just dipping your toe into the eldritch horror pool.
Now, I gotta admit, I loved the roguelike revamp of Darkest Dungeon 2. But a part of me missed the base management and strategic planning of the first game. Kingdoms seems like the perfect answer, combining the best of both worlds.
